As you know from previous articles, JRA was successful in our 2011 Landcare Grant application to re-vegetate the Strip, which allows us to continue with the next stages of the Andaman Strip rejuvenation and planting that was started a couple of years ago. Only two (2) applicants were successful in the Brisbane district, alongside 22 others throughout the rest of Queensland.
Once again JRA partook in the Clean Up Australia Day 2011 event on the weekend 5th and 6
On Saturday the 31st October, a good crowd of volunteers of all ages turned up as expected in perfect sunshine to attempt the targeted insertion of 1000 plants.
On the 16th November, Brisbane City Council sent out a very dedicated crew to plant out the chicane.
JRA is attempting to plant 1000 ground cover, bush and tree species on the one weekend in the Andaman Street nature strip.
Members will shortly be notified about details for a major planting bee that will be occurring along the Andaman strip on Saturday 31st October. You can help by providing suitable native species plants.
This group is concentrating on improving the visual aspect of our traffic corridors and with no parkland available within the precinct, the task is more difficult.
